Dharmendra: Bollywood’s He-Man Bids Final Goodbye

On 24 November 2025, the Hindi film world lost one of its greatest legends. Dharmendra, fondly called Bollywood’s ‘He-Man’ passed away at his residence in Mumbai at the age of 89. His demise has brought an end to an era,  a glorious six-decade journey filled with unforgettable films, iconic roles, and cinematic magic.

Born as Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol on 8 December 1935 in Punjab, he entered films in 1960 with “Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere.” Over the years, his charm, strong screen presence and versatile acting made him a superstar across genres, action, romance, comedy, making him a beloved name among millions.

He acted in more than 300 films, many of which are considered classics today. Films like Sholay (his character Veeru remains iconic), Chupke Chupke, Seeta Aur Geeta, and Phool Aur Patthar showcased his wide range as an actor.

Even in his late 80s, he remained active and his last film was slated for a 2025 release: Ikkis.

As soon as the news broke, tributes poured in. Filmmakers, co-stars and political leaders called his death ‘the end of an era’. The actor was cremated in Mumbai’s Pawan Hans crematorium, and the funeral saw many industry stalwarts paying respects.

Leaders like Narendra Modi called him an ‘iconic film personality’, and said his passing marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. His friends and co-stars remembered not only his films, but also his kindness, warmth, and humanity – qualities rare in the glamour world.

Dharmendra’s journey is more than just films. He symbolised strength, versatility, charisma ‘He-Man’ in real life too. His daughter, sons (some also well-known actors), and fans will forever remember him. Beyond his roles, his humility and warmth off-screen made him relatable to millions.

As the industry mourns, one thing is certain: Dharmendra’s films, his presence, and his legacy will live forever. His voice, smile, and unforgettable energy will continue to entertain generations, keeping the legend alive in hearts and memories.
