Over the past few days, intense rumours have spread on social media claiming that Imran Khan, former prime minister of Pakistan, is dead. The speculation began after a report from an Afghan media outlet said he had been killed inside Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, a claim that quickly went viral.
According to the rumours, Khan’s sisters – Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan had attempted to meet him after weeks of denied visitation. They alleged that while waiting outside the jail, they were brutally assaulted by police. These claims fueled massive protests outside the jail as supporters demanded proof of life.
As panic spread online, supporters clashed with police, some reports described tear-gas use and chaotic scenes outside the facility.
Jail officials quickly rejected the death rumours as baseless. They confirmed that Imran Khan remains in custody at Adiala Jail and is under complete medical supervision. The administration clarified there was no transfer or incident – statements echoed by senior officials who insisted the former PM was in good health.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister also stepped forward, refuting any reports of mistreatment and stating that Khan’s jail conditions were actually better than many prior detainees had experienced.
This is not the first time rumours around Imran Khan’s death or jail-related harm have circulated. Multiple similar false reports surfaced earlier in 2025. Experts and fact-checkers warn that such misleading claims, often shared without verification fuel unrest, fear and mistrust. Social media amplification adds fuel to the fire before any real information emerges.
