Nobel Peace Prize 2025

The Nobel Peace Prize for 2025 will be announced on October 10 at 11 a.m. Central European Summer Time (2:30 p.m. IST). Every year, this award recognizes individuals or organizations that have made outstanding contributions to peace, human rights, and global cooperation.

What is the Nobel Peace Prize?

The Nobel Peace Prize was founded by Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, along with awards in Chemistry, Physics, Medicine, and Literature. It honors those who have worked to promote peace, reduce conflicts, and improve international relationships.

The Nobel Peace Prize has a unique selection process. Anyone can nominate a person or organization, as long as they are an eligible nominator. These include university professors, government officials, members of parliament, past Nobel laureates, and leaders of peace organizations. The list of nominees remains secret for 50 years.

The process usually takes about eight months, ending with a final vote by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. The winner is chosen based on majority vote, and the decision cannot be appealed.

According to Alfred Nobel’s will, the award is given to those who have done “the most or best work for fraternity between nations, for reducing armies, and promoting peace congresses.” Over time, this definition has expanded to include human rights, democracy, and environmental protection.

The 2025 Nominees

For 2025, the Nobel Committee has received 338 nominations—244 individuals and 94 organizations. The names are not public, but speculation is high.

Donald Trump’s Nomination

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed he deserves the prize, citing his role in ending several conflicts and helping broker a peace plan between Israel and Hamas. He has reportedly been nominated by leaders from Israel, Cambodia, and Pakistan, among others. However, experts believe his chances are low due to his short-term diplomatic moves, “America First” policies, and public lobbying for the award.

Likely candidates include Yulia Navalnaya (widow of Alexei Navalny), Doctors Without Borders, Reporters Without Borders, climate activist Greta Thunberg, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

As the world awaits the announcement, one thing is certain — the Nobel Peace Prize continues to highlight those striving for peace and progress in a divided world.
