International Yoga Day 2026 turned out to be more than just another annual observance — it became a defining moment in India’s wellness history, with Bengaluru-based Akshar Yoga Kendraa achieving an unprecedented 21 Guinness World Records in a single day.
Led by renowned yoga guru and spiritual leader Himalayan Siddha Akshar, the historic feat drew thousands of yoga enthusiasts from across the world, with more than 10,000 practitioners representing over 100 countries — including the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, Malaysia, and Singapore — taking part in the grand celebration. The record-breaking celebration transformed Bengaluru into a global stage for yoga, showcasing extraordinary discipline, endurance, and collective consciousness.
Rakul Preet Singh Lend Support
Among those cheering the achievement was actress Rakul Preet Singh, who trained under Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar ahead of the event. Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, she praised the dedication, focus, and teamwork required to organise a community event of this scale, calling the attempt “indeed praiseworthy” and wishing the team success. She also shared glimpses of her own practice, including performing the tree pose, or Vrikshasana, under Akshar’s guidance.
The milestone asanas included 550 participants holding Bhadrasana for a minute, 864 people performing the Downward Facing Dog Pose simultaneously, 539 people holding the Locust Pose, 522 in the Eagle Pose, and 461 participants completing the Double Toe Hold Pose — all sustained for a full minute each.
This achievement builds on the organisation’s 2025 milestone, when Akshar Yoga Kendraa had set 12 Guinness World Records on International Yoga Day — nearly doubling that number this year. According to the organisation, this makes it the only institution in the world to hold 21 Guinness World Records in yogasanas.
The event aligned closely with this year’s UN theme, “Yoga for Healthy Aging,” reinforcing yoga’s universal appeal as a tool for health, harmony, and global well-being. As Himalayan Siddha Akshar put it, the day wasn’t just about breaking records — it was about awakening human potential and celebrating India’s timeless wisdom.
