The man who directed Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Vijay is now in front of the camera — and Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut in DC is nothing short of impressive.
Released on August 7, 2026, under the Sun Pictures banner, DC is directed by Arun Matheswaran — the filmmaker behind Rocky and Saani Kaayidham — and features Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy alongside Kanagaraj. The film is loosely adapted from the classic novel Devdas, reimagined as a gritty crime-action thriller set in a world where the very police meant to protect people end up destroying innocent lives.
DC Story
The film follows Devadas, a rebel in an outlaw gang who survives by swindling from those in power. When corrupt officers kill an innocent man and steal his life savings, Devadas and his crew retaliate — setting off a chain of intense events. Along the way, Devadas crosses paths with Chandra, played by Wamiqa Gabbi, and the two form an unlikely alliance.
Lokesh fits perfectly into the deglamorised role and delivers a very convincing performance. The film has a lot of violence and gore, but most of it feels justified within the story, so it never really comes across as unnecessary. Wamiqa Gabbi, making her Kollywood debut, is equally charming and holds her own in every scene she appears in.
But the true soul of the film is Anirudh Ravichander’s soundtrack. Experimenting with a rich fusion of classical, rock, and country influences, Anirudh elevates every key moment — his first-half background score alone is worth the price of the ticket.
DC is a technically powerful, emotionally engaging action thriller that proves Arun Matheswaran is at his best in this genre. It earns a strong 4/5 — a worthy watch for fans of raw, gripping Tamil cinema.
