Music composer AR Rahman recently became the centre of a heated debate after comments he made about the Hindi film industry sparked widespread discussion online. Grover shared the beloved music video of O Paalanhaare from Lagaan and criticised the intense reaction Rahman faced for expressing a personal viewpoint in the ‘polite, mildest manner’ based on his lived experience. Grover also pointed out that Rahman was ‘forced to issue an apology/clarification’ in response to the pressure from critics, which he saw as indicative of a broader problem with how candid remarks are treated today.
The debate has highlighted ongoing conversations in Indian media about freedom of expression, artistic voice, and industry dynamics. While some have defended Rahman’s right to share his perspective, others have argued that his comments risk overstating sensitive issues like communal bias.
