Kingdom Movie Review

“Kingdom” is a new Telugu movie starring Vijay Deverakonda and Satya Dev, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. It released on 31st July, 2025, with average excitement. Here’s a quick look at the story.

The film is set in the early 1990s. Soori (Vijay Deverakonda) is a constable searching for his missing brother Shiva (Satya Dev). He finds out that Shiva is in Sri Lanka, working in a smuggling gang and leading a team. Soori is sent as an undercover cop to find his brother and expose the gang. As he joins the group, he finally meets Shiva. The rest of the film shows whether Shiva finds out Soori’s true identity, why Soori is really there, and if the brothers will unite or fight each other.

What was Good

Vijay Deverakonda gives a calm and realistic performance. He plays his serious role without overacting and shows the struggle between duty and emotions very naturally. Satya Dev does well in his role and shares a few powerful scenes with Vijay, but his character isn’t explored deeply. Venkitesh as Murugan acts well with a strong screen presence, though his role isn’t used much. Some scenes stand out — like the bridge fight, the climax, and a few action moments, which add energy and hint at a sequel.

What was Not So Good

Even after two years of work, the story feels weak and too familiar. There’s not enough surprise or emotional depth to keep viewers hooked. The emotional bond between the brothers is supposed to be central but feels underdeveloped and flat. Actress Bhagyashri Borse plays a simple role with no real impact on the story. Her character seems incomplete, possibly for a sequel. Satya Dev’s role also feels shallow despite his talent. Side characters aren’t fleshed out and feel like fillers. Many scenes feel like repeats of things we’ve already seen in other movies, making it predictable.

The Technical Side

Director Gowtam Tinnanuri likely had a strong idea, but the movie doesn’t fully capture the emotional depth or storytelling it aimed for. It feels more like a mix of common action-thriller elements than a fresh story about brotherhood and moral choices.

On the bright side, the film looks visually rich. The cinematography by Girish Gangadharan and Jomon T. John makes the locations and action scenes look impressive and polished.

Anirudh Ravichander’s background score supports the movie well but relies on familiar sounds. It works, but doesn’t stand out. Editing by Naveen Nooli could have been sharper, especially in the second half where the film slows down. Still, the production quality is solid, with good sets, action scenes, and a polished look that shows effort and budget.

Final Verdict

Kingdom is a decent action drama. Vijay Deverakonda’s steady performance and the movie’s good visuals help keep it engaging. While the emotional connection and storyline could have been stronger, the film is watchable and enjoyable if you keep your expectations moderate.
