Delhi CM Slapped During Public Hearing

Delhi CM (Chief Minister) Rekha Gupta was attacked at her home during a public hearing this morning, leaving her with hand and head injuries. A man in his 40s, identified as Rajesh Sakriya from Rajkot, Gujarat, suddenly attacked her but was quickly caught by security. His mother later said Rajesh, a dog lover, was upset over the Supreme Court’s recent order to move stray dogs in Delhi NCR to shelters.

According to sources, the attacker slapped the Chief Minister, pushed her, and pulled her hair before security stopped him. The Chief Minister’s Office called it a “planned attack,” saying CCTV showed the man scouting the CM’s house a day earlier, recording videos, and preparing for the assault. The footage has been given to the police, and a detailed investigation is underway. The Delhi CM holds weekly ‘Jansunwai’ meetings at her home to hear public issues. BJP leader Harish Khurana condemned the incident, said doctors are treating the CM, and demanded a probe into whether the attack was politically motivated.

Eyewitnesses said the attacker came with some papers, spoke to the Chief Minister, and then suddenly attacked her. The BJP suspects a political conspiracy, with Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa alleging that rivals cannot tolerate the CM’s ground-level work. Former Delhi CM and AAP leader Atishi strongly condemned the incident, saying violence has no place in democracy and urging strict police action. She also wished for the CM’s safety. Delhi Police sources said a probe will be held into the major security lapse, which will be closely monitored by Police Commissioner SBK Singh.
