Bollywood has lost another member of one of its most beloved families. Suneil Anand, son of legendary actor Dev Anand and actress Kalpana Kartik, passed away on July 26, 2026, in London after suffering two successive heart attacks. He was 70.
Suneil Anand suffered a heart attack while in London, where he had stopped during a journey from the US to India. He was admitted to hospital, where doctors planned to perform a stent procedure. However, before the procedure could take place, he suffered a second heart attack and could not be revived. In a poignant coincidence, he passed away at the same London hospital where his father, Dev Anand, had died years earlier.
His niece Gina Narang confirmed the news in a family statement: “With heavy hearts, our family mourns the passing of Suneil Anand. We are comforted by the outpouring of love, prayers, and support, for which we are truly grateful. We kindly request privacy as we navigate this difficult time together.”
A Life Dedicated to His Father’s Legacy
Suneil Anand made his acting debut in 1984 with Anand Aur Anand, directed by Dev Anand himself, and went on to appear in films such as Car Thief, Main Tere Liye, and Master. He also managed Navketan Films, the banner his father had founded, overseeing its productions until its final film Chargesheet in 2011 — the same year Dev Anand passed away.
But beyond films, Suneil’s greatest contribution was perhaps his role as his father’s closest companion and caretaker. He had once said that he spent 40 years of his life simply being with Dev Anand — managing his schedule, his well-being, and their family banner. He also coordinated taking the classic film Guide to the Cannes Film Festival in 2008 — the first Indian classic ever selected by the Cannes committee.
Suneil Anand had turned 70 just weeks earlier on June 30, 2026, and had spoken about his plans to direct a film dedicated to his father. That dream, sadly, will now remain unfulfilled.
He leaves behind a family, a legacy, and the enduring memory of a man who gave everything to preserve his father’s extraordinary story.
