Obsession movie on Neflix

Obsession Is Coming to Netflix

It started as a micro-budget indie that nobody saw coming — and ended up becoming one of the most talked-about films of 2026. Now, Obsession is heading to Netflix, and horror fans who missed it in theatres finally have a date to circle.

Obsession will make its debut on Netflix US on November 17, 2026. But before that, the film will first stream on Peacock from July 17, under Netflix’s licensing deal with Universal, which sees new theatrical releases debut on Peacock before moving to Netflix for an exclusive window.

The story behind Obsession is almost as extraordinary as the film itself. Made for a production budget of just $750,000, the film shattered records with a box office gross of over $371 million. It earned an “A-” grade on CinemaScore exit polls and holds a 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes — a remarkable achievement for a horror film, a genre notorious for poor audience ratings.

What made its run truly historic was its staying power. The film became the first wide release outside of the Christmas season since E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial to increase its earnings for three consecutive weekends. 75% of moviegoers were between 18 and 25 years old — a young, passionate audience that kept coming back and spreading the word.

What Is Obsession About?

Directed by 26-year-old YouTuber-turned-filmmaker Curry Barker, the film follows Bear, a hopeless romantic played by Michael Johnston, who makes a Faustian bargain to win the heart of his crush Nikki, played by Inde Navarrette. What begins as a supernatural wish quickly spirals into a chilling nightmare of dark consequences and psychological horror

The film is currently available to rent on premium VOD platforms like Apple TV and Amazon for $19.99, or to purchase digitally for $24.99. For those happy to wait, Netflix remains the most accessible destination when it arrives in November.

Obsession is proof that a compelling story, strong word-of-mouth, and the right audience can still make magic at the movies — budget be damned.
