Rishab Shetty’s much-awaited film, Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, also called Kantara 2, has started its box office journey with a bang. After the massive success of the original Kantara in 2022, fans were eager to see how the prequel would perform. And the numbers show that the craze is real.
According to early estimates by Sacnilk, the Kantara Chapter 1 Box Office Collection Day 2 (updated live) stands at ₹8.81 crore net in India so far. With this, the total collection of the film has crossed ₹68.81 crore net in India. The final figure for Day 2 will be revealed after the night shows, but trade experts believe the film will continue strong through the weekend.
The movie recorded solid occupancy across different languages on Friday. The Kannada version led with 60.03% occupancy, followed by Telugu at 38.51%, Tamil at 30%, Bengali at 30.50%, and Malayalam at 27.40%. The Hindi version saw a lower occupancy of 7.39% in morning shows. Still, the buzz is expected to grow with positive word-of-mouth.
Bankrolled by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda under Hombale Films, the movie is directed by and stars Rishab Shetty. Also featuring Rukmini Vasanth, Gulshan Devaiah, and Jayaram, the prequel is set in pre-colonial coastal Karnataka. The story explores the origin of the guardian deity Panjurli Daiva, the struggles of a tribal community, and their pact with a king.
The original Kantara earned Rishab Shetty a National Film Award for Best Actor and became a cultural phenomenon. With Chapter 1, the franchise has once again captured the imagination of audiences.
On its opening day, the film made an impressive ₹60 crore net in India, and with Day 2 collections rising, Kantara Chapter 1 is on track to become another blockbuster.
