Although India has only about 4 lakh qualified CAs in a population of over a billion, the profession is highly respected due to its strict standards and tough exams.
CA Day 2025: About ICAI
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) was set up by an Act of Parliament to manage and promote the CA profession in the country. It is the world’s largest body of chartered accountants and works under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. ICAI plays a key role in supporting India’s economy.
Over the years, ICAI has gained global respect due to its tough exams, quality education, and strict ethical and technical standards. Since its start in 1949, the number of CAs and students in this field has grown a lot.
Globally, ICAI is the second-largest accounting body after the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). In India, the CA qualification is highly valued, as ICAI is the only authority allowed to issue licenses for financial audits.
