Who is Sitaram Yechury?
Sitaram Yechury (born 12 August 1952) is an Indian Marxist politician who serves as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and has been a member of the CPI(M) Politburo since 1992. He was also a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament representing West Bengal from 2005 to 2017.
Yechury, alongside Prakash Karat, played a key role in establishing a strong leftist stronghold at JNU. In 1978, he was elected as the All-India Joint Secretary of SFI and later became the All-India President of SFI. Notably, he was the first SFI president from outside Kerala or Bengal.
