Donald Trump has been elected as the US President in the 2024 election, with JD Vance as the incoming Vice President. Vance, once a critic of Trump, is a senator and author. His wife, Usha Vance, an Indian-American lawyer, is anticipated to contribute to enhancing US-India relations.

Former President Donald Trump announced his victory on Tuesday after key U.S. media outlets projected his win over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. Addressing a lively crowd at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Trump described his win as “an unprecedented and powerful mandate from the American people.” He also commended his running mate, JD Vance, and Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, for their significant contributions to the campaign.

Who is Usha Vance?

An American lawyer with ancestral roots in Andhra Pradesh, she was raised in a San Diego suburb as the daughter of Indian immigrants. She holds a bachelor’s degree in History from Yale University and a master’s degree in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge.

She met JD Vance while studying at Yale Law School, and the two married in 2014 in a ceremony that incorporated Hindu rituals. The couple has three children. She has been a strong supporter of her husband’s political career, frequently appearing with him during his campaigns.

Usha Vance, born in California to Indian immigrant parents from Andhra Pradesh, was raised in the San Diego suburbs and went to Mt Carmel High School in Rancho Penasquitos. She later studied at Yale Law School, where she met JD Vance, the current US Vice President-elect, in 2013.

The couple tied the knot in 2014 after completing their studies at Yale and have since had three children—two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel.

In a recent post on X, Chandrababu Naidu, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, expressed his intention to invite the family to Andhra Pradesh, highlighting a proud moment for the Telugu community as Usha Vance steps into her significant role in the United States.
