Tirupati Laddu report goes viral: Netizens respond, ‘Since it is based on the sentiments of many Hindus…
As the controversy surrounding the alleged presence of animal fat in Tirupati laddus intensifies, netizens have joined the discussion. A heated debate broke out on the social media platform X after lab reports from samples sent by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam reportedly revealed that the famous sacred sweet, Tirupati laddus, contained “beef tallow, fish oil,” and other inferior ingredients.
The lab report also alleged the presence of “lard” (pig fat) in the samples. In response, one user on X shared the lab report with a caption that read, “If you’re reading this and still breathing normally, shame on you.”
The user went on to say that the report was a “SLAP” on all citizens of the country, their ancestors, “every Hindu alive,” and “every Hindu soul.” The post received over 100,000 views and was shared approximately 4,000 times. Many others also commented on the post, with several blaming former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Another user, meanwhile, pointed out that the allegations were largely based on a few images being circulated online. The user posted, “The claims of adulteration are primarily based on three pictures circulating on social media,” and shared the photos of the report that have been making the rounds.
Another user added a new dimension to the controversy by referencing a news archive that explained why Nandini ghee, the standard variety previously used in making Tirupati laddus, was discontinued.
TL report
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy described the issue as “an insult to the Hindu religion” and expressed hope for “justice.” However, neither the Andhra Pradesh government nor Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which oversees the renowned Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple, has commented on the matter.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu stirred a major controversy on September 18 during a meeting with NDA MLAs, MPs, and MLCs by claiming that animal fat, rather than ghee, was used in making Prasadam at the Tirumala temple between 2019 and 2024, when the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) was in power. In response, YSRCP MP and former TTD Trust Board chairman Y.V. Subba Reddy challenged Mr. Naidu on September 19 to prove the allegation and warned that if he failed, a defamation suit would be filed against him for making what he called a baseless accusation that hurt the sentiments of Hindus worldwide.
