Pritish Nandy Passes Away

Veteran media figure, Pritish Nandy, passed away today (January 8) at 73. Reports say he had been battling pancreatic cancer and died from a heart attack at his South Mumbai home.

Pritish Nandy leaves behind his wife, Rina, and their three children: Kushan, Ishita, and Rangita. Kushan works as a director and producer, with films like Babumoshai Bandookbaaz and Jogira Sara Ra Ra to his credit. Rangita is the creator of the popular series Four More Shots Please on Amazon Prime Video.

Pritish Nandy built a strong legacy in cinema through his company, Pritish Nandy Communications (PNC), which reportedly has a market capitalization of ₹76 crore.

He produced several notable films including Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, Anupama, Sur, Jhankaar Beats, Chameli, Kaante, Shabd, Pyaar Ke Side Effects, Ugly Aur Pagli, and Shaadi Ke Side Effects.

In 2019, Pritish Nandy Communications ventured into OTT with the hit series Four More Shots Please. The show has had three seasons, with the fourth currently in production.

Awards and Philanthropy

In addition to his work as a producer, Pritish Nandy was an accomplished writer who received several prestigious honors, including the Padma Shri (1977), KarmaVeer Puraskaar (2008), and the International Humanitarian Award (2012). He also founded India’s first animal rights NGO, People for Animals.

On Wednesday, veteran actor Anupam Kher shared the heartbreaking news of Pritish Nandy’s passing on his Instagram, along with a touching post. Kher expressed his deep sadness and shock at losing one of his closest friends. Referring to Nandy as “brave,” the actor reminisced about how Nandy had supported him during his early days in Mumbai. He praised Nandy as an exceptional poet, writer, filmmaker, and a bold journalist, describing him as a key source of strength and someone who was always fearless. Kher mentioned that while they hadn’t met often recently, there was a time when they were inseparable. He also fondly recalled being featured on the cover of Filmfare and The Illustrated Weekly as a surprise from Nandy.
