What is Operation Sindoor?
Early Wednesday, Indian Army destroyed 9 terror hideouts in Pakistan and POK under ‘Operation Sindoor’.
The Indian armed forces launched 24 accurate missile strikes on nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), including Muridke and Bahawalpur — areas known to be strongholds of the terror groups Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed. The strikes killed over 70 terrorists and injured more than 60, weakening these groups’ ability to operate.
The attacks, carried out at 1:44 a.m., were in retaliation for a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 people — 25 Indians and one Nepali.
In an official statement, the Ministry of Defence said that India had struck terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, which were used to plan and carry out attacks against India.
The leadership of Colonel Sofiya Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh in the briefing on India’s military strikes in Pakistan is seen as a powerful symbol of strength, sacrifice, and a tribute to the widows of the Pahalgam attack.
They explained that Operation Sindoor was carefully planned, limited in scope, and not meant to escalate tensions. The ministry also mentioned that no Pakistani military sites were targeted and that India had shown restraint in choosing the targets and how the strikes were carried out. They added that India was keeping its promise to hold those behind the attack responsible.
India carried out the strikes just a few hours before a scheduled nationwide security drill meant to prepare for possible enemy attacks, involving 244 districts. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has promised to go after those responsible for the attack, including those involved in planning it, and punish them in a way they could never have imagined.
The Indian Air Force carried out night-time airstrikes on nine terrorist hideouts in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, targeting camps of the banned groups Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen, officials said on Wednesday.
Key places hit included Jaish-e-Mohammed’s camps in Bahawalpur, Tehra Kalan, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. Other locations targeted were Lashkar-e-Taiba’s centers in Murdike, Barnala, and Muzaffarabad.
