Tamil actor and filmmaker Manoj Bharathiraja, son of renowned director and actor Bharathiraja, passed away at 48 on Tuesday, March 25. He experienced a cardiac arrest at his home in Chetpet, Chennai, while recovering from a recent bypass surgery.
His sudden passing has shocked the film industry and fans deeply. Numerous actors, politicians, and technicians shared their grief and extended condolences to his family.

Manoj Kumar Bharathiraja (September 11, 1976 – March 25, 2025) was an Indian actor and film director known for his work in Tamil cinema. The son of renowned director Bharathiraja, Manoj made his acting debut in the 1999 film Taj Mahal. Some of his notable films include Samudhiram (2001), Kadal Pookkal (2001), Alli Arjuna (2002), Varushamellam Vasantham (2002), Eera Nilam (2003), Annakodi (2013), Baby (2015), Maanaadu (2021), and Viruman (2022). Before becoming an actor, Manoj worked as an assistant director in the Tamil film industry, assisting his father on films such as Final Cut of Director (2016), which was delayed.
Manoj, born in 1976 to Bharathiraja and Chandraleela, made his acting debut in 1999 with Taj Mahal. Throughout his career, he starred in films like Kadal Pookkal, Eera Nilam, and Vaaimai. Later, he transitioned to supporting roles in movies such as Eeswaran, Maanaadu, and Viruman.
In 2023, Manoj made his directorial debut with Margazhi Thingal, starring his father alongside newcomers Shyam Selvan and Rakshana. His final appearance was in the Prime Video series Snakes & Ladders.
Manoj is survived by his wife, former actress Nandana, and their two daughters, Arshitha and Mathivadhani. He and Nandana acted together in Saadhuriyan before marrying on November 19, 2006.
