KK – Krishnakumar Kunnath

KK, the legendary singer Krishnakumar Kunnath, has been honoured today by the tech giant, Google. On this day in 1996, KK made his playback singing debut with the song “Chhod Aaye Hum,” leaving a lasting impact on Bollywood music for generations to remember.

On October 25th, 2024, Google Doodle is honoring singer KK, also known as Krishnakumar Kunnath. Renowned for his soulful, romantic songs, KK is regarded as one of the greatest singers. He made his playback singing debut on this day in 1996 with the song “Chhod Aaye Hum” from the movie Maachis.

From the romantic melody of “Khuda Jaane” to the heartfelt “Beetein Lamhe,” KK’s songs have resonated with millions. He was also well-known for recording in multiple languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Bengali, Assamese, and Gujarati.

Although considered one of the greatest singers of his generation, KK recorded songs in over nine languages. With so many of his songs being true classics, selecting his best work is challenging. His legacy shines through in hits like “Pal,” “Yaaron,” “Tadap Tadap,” “Apadi Podu,” “Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai,” “Aankhon Mein Teri,” “Piya Aaye Na,” “Zara Sa,” “Tu Jo Mila,” and many more.

About Krishnakumar Kunnath

Born on August 23, 1968, in Delhi, India, KK attended Kirori Mal College at Delhi University and briefly worked in marketing before committing entirely to music. Over his 30-year career, he recorded over 500 songs in Hindi and more than 200 in Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, and Malayalam. His work earned him six Filmfare Award nominations, two Star Screen Awards, and many other accolades.

KK Death

In June 2022, the legendary singer passed away at 53 from cardiac arrest. Although Krishnakumar Kunnath’s death, which occurred just hours after his performance at Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata, was initially considered “unnatural,” an autopsy later confirmed heart failure as the cause.
