Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir Election Results Live
Early trends show a tight race between Congress and BJP in Haryana, while the NC-Congress alliance has gained a comfortable lead in Jammu & Kashmir.
The 2024 assembly election results for Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir are about to be revealed, making this the first major electoral outcome since the recent Lok Sabha elections. Vote counting has commenced, beginning with postal ballots and followed by electronic voting machine (EVM) votes, with political parties eagerly anticipating the results.
The election for the 90-seat Jammu & Kashmir assembly carries historic importance as it is the first since the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, which significantly changed the region’s political dynamics. Exit polls indicate a tight race between the Congress-National Conference (NC) alliance and the BJP, with the alliance projected to win around 43 seats, just shy of the 46-seat majority required.
In Haryana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming for a third consecutive term despite dealing with anti-incumbency challenges. The Congress, buoyed by exit polls suggesting a potential resurgence, is keen to reclaim power after a decade in opposition. This election marks the first significant direct showdown between the BJP and Congress since the Lok Sabha elections, with the victor likely to leverage the result to shape their narrative in future state elections.
In contrast to Haryana, the majority of seats in Jammu and Kashmir have experienced multi-party contests rather than a direct competition between Congress and the BJP. Exit polls predict the BJP will win around 55 seats, comfortably exceeding the 46-seat majority threshold, while the Congress is expected to secure about 27 seats. The INLD is projected to win 2 seats, the JJP 1 seat, and other parties around 5 seats.
