Heavy Rain Drenches Delhi-NCR
Pertaining to the Delhi weather, a red alert was issued for Delhi-NCR after heavy rain on Wednesday evening, causing waterlogging and traffic problems in the city.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) released an advisory, urging Delhi residents to stay indoors unless necessary. The advisory stated, “Avoid going to areas that frequently experience waterlogging.”
Delhi Weather in a Bad State
The IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ for Delhi until 8:30 am today, followed by an orange alert for the next 24 hours. In the evening, the Indian Meteorological Department stated, “Moderate rainfall with moderate thunderstorms and lightning is expected in North Delhi, Central Delhi, New Delhi, South Delhi, South-East Delhi, East Delhi, and the NCR in the next two hours.”
It has predicted that rainy conditions will continue until August 5. Besides Delhi, other NCR regions have also seen thunderstorms and light rain.
IMD’s Automatic Weather Station (AWS) network reported that the Pragati Maidan observatory in central Delhi recorded 112.5 mm of rainfall within one hour.
According to ANI, Delhi airport diverted 10 flights between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm because of the rain and the worsening conditions of Delhi weather.
IMD Recommendations on Delhi Weather
To stay safe, the IMD recommends:
1. Plan ahead: Check for traffic jams on your route before heading out and follow any traffic updates.
2. Steer clear of flood-prone areas that often experience waterlogging.
3. Avoid entering weak or unstable structures that could pose a risk.
By taking these precautions, you can minimize your risk and stay safe.
