Animal Movie Plot
Director Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s movie, Animal, revolves around a complex father-son relationship that evolves into a multi-generational tale of violence and vengeance.
Anil Kapoor plays Balbir, a businessman, who is so absorbed in his business that he neglects his son, Ranvijay. In response, Ranvijay sees himself as a Napoleonic king, resorting to violence because, apparently, he believes his father didn’t celebrate his birthday properly. The movie seems to celebrate aggressive behavior and portrays it to be as an acceptable or the only way to achieve justice.
The Vibe of the Movie Animal
The film is filled with misogyny, showing off, disrespect towards women, and offensive remarks.
It doesn’t aim to showcase sophistication in elements like cinematic storytelling, character development, conflict, or emotional appeal.
Instead, it is a lengthy, 3.5-hour presentation designed to lure cultural commentators. The main point it makes is that in India, a killer might escape consequences for an individual murder, but widespread slaughter goes unchecked and unfortunately, glamourizes Ranvijay’s violent acts.
The movie’s scenes and plot could have been justified if it portrayed the character as mentally ill and later undergoing a positive change.
However, the film failed to depict any such transformation. Instead, it glorified misogyny and toxic masculinity. The protagonist exuded confidence like an alpha male, and the objectification of women was promoted.
Someone on twitter has aptly quoted that this movie is for the animals, of the animals and by the animals.
Movies like these depict Ranvijay as the epitome of masculinity, and fans may use these characters to justify their behaviour by convincing themselves that they are right.
The Positive Side
The positive side of the movie is that it relies a lot on Ranbir Kapoor’s talent and fame. The movie stands out because of his natural charm and strong intensity. Kapoor, being one of the best actors today, really makes you feel like you’re inside his character’s troubled mind, especially when his angry eyes are shown. He acts without holding back, and it’s surprising and interesting in every part of the movie. He does especially well in the important ending scene, where he adds a dangerous and unpredictable quality to the crazy character. However, his outstanding acting deserves a better story to match how good he is.
