The Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election results for 2026 are out, with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) winning three of the four key posts. Yash Dabas retained the president’s seat for ABVP, while Riya Chhawdi won secretary and Lakshya Raj Singh secured joint secretary. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won the vice-president post.
Close Fight for President
The presidential contest was one of the closest races of the election. ABVP’s Yash Dabas defeated NSUI candidate Vijay Shankar Meena by 2,053 votes.
Dabas received 24,576 votes, while Meena got 22,523 votes. The lead changed several times during counting, keeping the result uncertain until the final rounds.
The other major result came in the vice-president contest. Independent candidate Deepanshu Shokeen won with 30,615 votes, defeating ABVP’s Ishu Maurya, who received 16,910 votes. NSUI’s Virr Chatrath finished with 4,313 votes. Shokeen’s winning margin was 13,705 votes.
ABVP Wins Three Posts
ABVP also won the secretary and joint secretary positions. Riya Chhawdi defeated NSUI’s Namrata Chaudhary for secretary, while Lakshya Raj Singh won the joint secretary contest.
Singh’s victory was another close one. He secured 16,641 votes, while independent candidate Vishesh Yadav received 15,778 votes. NSUI candidate Gopal Choudhary got 15,106 votes.
The election was contested for four central posts, with 20 candidates in the fray. ABVP and NSUI fielded candidates for all four positions, while AISA and SFI contested together. Independent candidates also played an important role in the results.)
40.46% Voter Turnout
The 2026 DUSU election recorded a voter turnout of 40.46%, with voting data received from all 52 polling centres. More than 1.51 lakh students were eligible to vote.
The election also took place amid increased security concerns. The Delhi High Court barred candidates and supporters from holding victory processions after the results, citing concerns related to election conduct and previous incidents during campaigning.
With the results now declared, the new DUSU central panel will take charge for the 2026–27 academic session, with ABVP holding three of the four central positions and an independent candidate taking the vice-president post.
