Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal, the former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to President Droupadi Murmu, has taken premature retirement from the Indian Army, bringing an end to a military journey that also made him an unexpected social media sensation. Known online as India’s “national crush,” Major Sambyal gained widespread attention for his calm demeanour, sharp military bearing and professional presence during official events with the President.
Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal’s journey in the armed forces began with his selection for the National Defence Academy (NDA). He joined the 133rd NDA course in 2014 and later trained at the Indian Military Academy (IMA), eventually being commissioned into the Indian Army. During his career, he rose through the ranks and served in several prestigious assignments.
He first came into the public spotlight in 2021 when, as a Captain, he led the Jat Regiment contingent at the Republic Day Parade. The contingent went on to win the Best Marching Contingent Trophy, marking an important milestone in his military career. He later served with the elite 4 Para Special Forces, popularly known as the “Daggers,” and reportedly earned the coveted Balidaan Badge.
Major Sambyal later took up one of the most prestigious assignments available to a young Army officer—serving as ADC to President Droupadi Murmu. His regular appearances alongside the President during official ceremonies, public engagements and overseas visits soon made him a familiar face online.

Reports suggest that personal and family circumstances influenced his decision to leave the Army, although he has not publicly shared detailed information about those circumstances.
