Abhijeet Dipke: From Boston University to Jantar Mantar

The Man Behind India’s Cockroach Janta Party

He turned a Supreme Court judge’s insult into a nationwide movement — and now, Abhijeet Dipke finds himself at the centre of a fresh controversy over how he funded his studies in the United States.

Dipke, 30, recently completed a Master’s degree in Public Relations from Boston University’s College of Communication. Before launching the CJP, he worked in political communications, including with the Aam Aadmi Party between 2020 and 2023, where he focused on social media strategy and digital campaigns.

The Cockroach Janta Party was born on May 16, 2026, after the Chief Justice of India compared unemployed Gen Z youth to “cockroaches” and “parasites of society” during a Supreme Court hearing. Dipke, recognising the frustration this sparked, launched a satirical campaign that within 24 hours became a nationwide movement. The CJP’s Instagram page eventually crossed 20 million followers, making it one of the most talked-about political accounts in the country.

Dipke returned to India in June and led the massive student protests at Jantar Mantar over the NEET-UG paper leak — protests that ultimately contributed to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Now, with the movement’s success has come scrutiny. A Surat-based RTI activist filed a formal complaint questioning how Dipke’s father, a retired government employee earning ₹60,000–₹65,000 per month, could afford to send his son to study in the US.

Dipke has been unequivocal in his response. “I received a scholarship from Boston University, and for the remaining amount, I took an education loan. It is still pending and has to be repaid. The fight is not personal,” he told PTI. He also announced that the CJP would rely on crowdfunding going forward, with complete transparency about how funds are used.

For Dipke, the attacks only strengthen his resolve. Education, he says, has become unaffordable and inaccessible for ordinary Indians — and that is precisely the fight the CJP intends to keep fighting.
