Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan was attacked by an unknown individual at his Mumbai residence and is currently being treated at Lilavati Hospital. He has undergone neurosurgery, and plastic surgery is in progress. Hospital officials stated that the 54-year-old actor is stable, but a full evaluation of his injuries will be done once all surgeries are completed.
Mumbai police believe the attacker may be connected to one of the household staff members who allowed him access to the house. The staff members are being questioned by the police. Although the attacker was briefly confined to a room, he managed to escape. The Mumbai Crime Branch and local police are investigating the case, including reviewing CCTV footage.
Khan sustained six stab wounds, including two deep cuts on his back, with one close to his spine, as well as a minor neck injury. The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. while Khan, his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan, and their family were asleep.
A police officer involved in the investigation mentioned that the domestic help likely let the attacker in, but it is unclear what led to the alarm being raised and the subsequent attack on Khan. The officer suggested a fight may have broken out after the intruder was allowed entry. Seven police teams are working to track down the attacker.
Despite locking the attacker in a room, he managed to escape, and police are currently looking into the circumstances of his entry, though no CCTV footage from the lift or lobby has shown his arrival.
NCP(SP) leader Supriya Sule, a friend of Kareena Kapoor Khan’s family, called the attack on Saif Ali Khan “worrisome” and confirmed that the actor is safe in the hospital. She advised waiting for an official statement from the family and police.
