Who is Arshdeep Singh?
Arshdeep Singh Aulakh (born February 5, 1999) is an Indian professional cricketer who represents the India national cricket team.
As a left-arm medium-fast bowler, Arshdeep played a key role in the Indian team’s victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was one of the tournament’s joint-highest wicket-takers. He was also part of the Indian squad that won the U-19 World Cup in 2018. Arshdeep made his international debut for India in July 2022 during a Twenty20 International (T20I) match against England.
Arshdeep Singh is one of just three Indian bowlers, alongside Jhulan Goswami and Ajit Agarkar, to begin his T20I career with a maiden over. Known for his expertise in death overs, particularly his precise yorkers and deliveries exceeding 140 kph, he made his international debut in England in 2022.
Arshdeep in Bangladesh vs India
Bangladeshi cricket commentator Tamim Iqbal lauded Arshdeep Singh for his outstanding performance, commending him for giving his all and helping India secure a seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in the Gwalior T20I on Sunday. Arshdeep took 3 wickets during the match.
Tamim Iqbal highly praised Arshdeep Singh, stating that the Indian pacer often doesn’t receive the recognition he truly deserves. On Sunday, the 25-year-old Arshdeep was named Player of the Match after India claimed a 1-0 lead in the T20I series against Bangladesh with a seven-wicket win at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium in Gwalior.
Tamim applauded Arshdeep for his impressive performance in the final over, where he conceded just three runs and took Mustafizur’s wicket with the last ball. He noted that rather than relying on flashy tactics, Arshdeep sticks to his strengths to effectively control the batters.
Tamim mentioned to the broadcasters after the match that Arshdeep’s final over was unbelievable, though people often talked about other bowlers’ overs instead. He emphasized that Arshdeep’s over was crucial and praised him for knowing his limitations, noting that Arshdeep stays within his capabilities and understands what he can and cannot do.
Tamim, one of Bangladesh’s top run-scorers in international cricket, expressed that Arshdeep should continue to be part of India’s playing XI, even when key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj return.
Since his debut in 2022, Arshdeep has played 55 T20Is and claimed 86 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls. He currently ranks fifth among India’s leading wicket-takers in Men’s T20Is, following Yuzvendra Chahal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya.
Arshdeep will aim to maintain his strong form when India takes on Bangladesh in the second T20I on September 9 at New Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
