Malaika Arora’s father, Anil Mehta, passed away on Wednesday morning after jumping from the sixth-floor balcony of his Bandra residence. His wife, Joyce Polycarp, was in their apartment at Ayesha Manor in Bandra when the incident occurred.
Malaika Arora, who was reportedly on her way to Pune, rushed back to Mumbai upon receiving the tragic news. A video surfaced online showing a grieving Malaika leaving her parents’ home last night, accompanied by her sister Amrita Arora, husband Shakeel Ladak, Arjun Kapoor, and close friends Kareena and Karisma Kapoor, along with her son Arhaan. In the video, Arjun Kapoor is seen helping Malaika to her car. Following her father’s passing, Malaika was visited by her ex-husband Arbaaz Khan, along with Salim Khan, Salma Khan, Sohail Khan, Arpita Khan, Alizeh Agnihotri, and other members of the Khan family in Mumbai.
Malaika Arora released the family’s first statement following her father’s passing last night, requesting privacy from the media during this difficult time. In the statement, she wrote, “We are heartbroken to announce the loss of our beloved father, Anil Mehta. He was a kind soul, a loving grandfather, a devoted husband, and our closest friend. Our family is in deep shock, and we humbly ask the media and well-wishers for privacy during this tough period. We are grateful for your support and understanding. With gratitude, Joyce, Malaika, Amrita, Shakeel, Arhaan, Azaan, Rayyan, Casper, Axl, Duffy, and Buddy.”

Anil Mehta’s wife, Joyce Polycarp, was in their apartment at Ayesha Manor in Bandra when the incident occurred. He reportedly jumped from their building in Mumbai’s Bandra. According to an IANS report, Anil Mehta had called both his daughters, telling them, “I’m tired,” before allegedly jumping off the balcony. Joyce Polycarp, Malaika and Amrita Arora’s mother, informed the Mumbai Police that she was at home during the incident. Around 9 a.m. on Wednesday, she noticed her husband’s slippers in the living room and began searching for him, as reported by IANS.
As reported by IANS, when she didn’t see him on the balcony, she leaned over the railing and noticed a commotion below, with a security guard shouting for help. It was at that moment, she told the police, that she realized something was seriously wrong.
Malaika Arora was born in Thane, near Mumbai. After her parents divorced when she was 11, she moved to Chembur with her mother, Joyce, and sister, Amrita. Joyce Polycarp is a Malayali Christian, while Anil Mehta, who worked in the Indian Merchant Navy, belonged to the Punjabi community.
A post-mortem examination is being carried out at Bhabha Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. The news of Mehta’s passing has caused a wave of shock in the entertainment industry and beyond, with an outpouring of condolences on social media.
