Who is PV Sindhu?
PV Sindhu, born Pusarla Venkata Sindhu on July 5, 1995, in Hyderabad, is an acclaimed Indian badminton player and the first Indian woman to secure an Olympic silver medal. Alongside Saina Nehwal, she is one of the two Indian badminton players to win an Olympic medal. Sindhu gained international recognition at 17 when she entered the top 20 of the BWF World Ranking in September 2012, and she has frequently been in the top 10. Born to national-level volleyball players P V Ramana and Vijaya, Sindhu began playing badminton at eight and later joined Gopichand Badminton Academy. She first received major recognition by winning the 5th Servo All India ranking championship in the under-10 category. In the under-13 category, she clinched doubles titles at the Sub-Junior Nationals and the All India Ranking in Pune. At the 51st National School Games, she won gold in the under-14 category.

India’s top badminton player PV Sindhu began her Paris Olympics 2024 journey on a high note, defeating Maldivian opponent Fathimath Nabaaha in the first two rounds on Sunday. Sindhu dominated the match, winning 21-9 and 21-6 in just 29 minutes .Ranked 10th, Sindhu will now play against world No. 75 Kristin Kuuba in her second group match on July 31. She is aiming for her third Olympic medal, having won a silver in Rio 2016 and a bronze in Tokyo.
