The Pune Porsche accident has captivated the entire country. The shocking visuals and details have left the country questioning the judgement of the court.
Two IT engineers were killed when a speeding Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old boy under the influence of alcohol, hit their motorcycle at Pune’s Kalyani Nagar junction around 2:30 am on May 19.
An FIR was filed against the boy at the Yerwada police station that same morning. Approximately eight hours after the accident, at around 11 am, his blood samples were taken and sent to a forensic lab to determine if he had consumed alcohol at the time of the incident, according to a police officer. The police assert they have evidence of the minor boy’s alcohol consumption, including CCTV footage and receipts from two restaurants where the boy, the son of a well-known realtor, was reportedly drinking with friends before the accident.
On Wednesday, the Juvenile Justice Board in Pune sent the minor boy to an observation home until June 5. There was significant public outrage after the board granted him bail on May 19, with conditions that he “write a 300-word essay” on road accidents and their solutions and “assist RTO officers and study traffic rules for 15 days.” Following this, the police invoked MVA section 185 and filed a review application against the bail decision.
Now, the 17-year-old boy’s family asserts that the driver was driving at the time of the accident. His two friends, who were present during the incident, have supported his statement.
