Who is Sunita Kejriwal?
Sunita Kejriwal is the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal. She is an ex-IRS officer who served in the Income Tax department for 22 years and opted for a voluntary retirement from there in 2016. Her last posting was at the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) in Delhi where she served as the Income Tax Commissioner.
Arvind Kejriwal’s Arrest
Arvind Kejriwal was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with the Delhi Liquor policy case.
His detention prompted speculation about who will assume the role of Chief Minister. Members of the Aam Aadmi Party assert that he continues to govern even while imprisoned. Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal has designated Sunita Kejriwal as his spokesperson.
Sunita Kejriwal introduced a “Kejriwal Blessings” camp, encouraging individuals to send messages to a WhatsApp number she provided.
During a large-scale rally protesting Kejriwal’s detention in the case, numerous leaders from the INDIA bloc, such as Rahul Gandhi, Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar, Sitaram Yechury, D Raja, Mehbooba Mufti, Mamata Banerjee, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Sonia Gandhi, were present.
While sharing her husband’s message, she pledged that if the INDIA bloc wins the Lok Sabha elections, they will work towards granting full statehood to Delhi. She also mentioned that the six assurances of the INDIA bloc include providing quality hospitals and education.
These promises also cover ensuring uninterrupted power supply and 24/7 electricity, providing free electricity to the poor nationwide, constructing government schools in every locality, establishing community clinics and specialized hospitals in every village, and offering farmers a fair minimum support price (MSP) for their crops based on the Swaminathan Commission report.
“If you give the opportunity to the INDIA bloc, we’ll build a great nation. If voted to power, the INDIA bloc will fulfill six guarantees, including good hospitals and education. The people of Delhi have faced injustice in last 75 years; we will make Delhi full state if INDIA bloc comes to power,” she said. “Mother India is in pain, this tyranny won’t work. My husband is getting lots of blessings,” Sunita Kejriwal added.
Sunita Kejriwal also mentioned that Kejriwal is standing up for the people of India, and she added that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants him to step down.
“The BJP says that Arvind Kejriwal is in jail and he should resign. Do you think he should resign? Arvind Kejriwal is a lion, they can’t keep him behind the bars for long. He lives in the hearts of crores of people,” Sunita Kejriwal said while reading out her husband’s letter from jail.
At the same time, Sunita Kejriwal met with Kalpana Soren, the wife of former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, on Saturday. During their discussion, which lasted about 20 minutes, they both agreed to support each other in their battles.
