Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan’s recent movie, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is currently available for streaming on OTT platforms. The movie was released on December 21, 2023 in theatres and is now available on Netflix.

On Wednesday, Netflix India posted a Shah Rukh Khan-starrer poster on Instagram, revealing Dunki’s release on their platform. The caption stated, “Get ready to embark on a journey! After a whirlwind Dunki worldwide, @iamsrk is returning home… Dunki is now available for streaming on Netflix!” Dunki premiered on Netflix’s OTT platform on Valentine’s Day 2024.
Dunki Meaning
The term ‘Dunki’ is derived from the word ‘donkey’ routes. These are the soul crushing journeys that people take up for illegal immigration.
This is the route which people undertake to reach Western lands because obtaining work and residency visas through regular channels in these destinations is nearly impossible for some.
The Plot
The movie delves into tragic events related to foreign policies and addresses hard-hitting questions in a hilarious and comical style.
Shahrukh Khan portrays Hardayal Singh Dhillon, affectionately known as Hardy, an ex-army man from Pathankot. In 1995, he ventures to a place, Laltu, where he meets 3-4 young Punjabis determined to move to London.
In classic SRK fashion, he becomes their saviour, making it his personal mission to help them achieve their goal, all while falling in love with a charming lady along the way. However, very little goes according to plan.
Crossing jungles, deserts, and rivers, once they survive the journey and reach the destination, they get a reality check and they need to choose between pursuing their dreams of staying in the country or going back to their families. They need to figure out how to live in the shadows, make no noise and find gainful employment in the foreign land.
Now, the reasons why they struggle to find better employment are not deeply explored in the movie. The comedy drags on for a little long, overshadowing important details.
Vicky Kaushal’s character stands out everywhere, even when he highlights the unfairness of the English exam that they need to qualify to somehow get to their destination.
Hardy is used as a wild card in the film. Like a team leader, he swoops in to solve problems, even in his older version.
The music is something that stays with you even after the movie ends.
