Born on January 23, 1897, in Cuttack, Odisha, Subhash Chandra Bose, the ninth child of Janakinath Bose and Prabhavati Devi, excelled academically, completing his BA in Philosophy at Presidency College, Calcutta. Ranking fourth in the Civil Services Examination in England, he resigned in 1921. After returning to India, his confrontations with authorities earned him a rebel reputation.
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, mentored by Congress leader Chittaranjan Das, co-founded the Swaraj Party in 1922. He launched the Swaraj newspaper and was the Editor of the newspaper, The Forward. Elected as the President of the All India Youth Congress Committee in 1923, he served as Bengal State Congress Secretary and Calcutta’s mayor in 1930. In 1942, he formed the Indian National Army in Southeast Asia with Japanese support, leading to the establishment of the provisional government of Free India in 1943 in Andaman and Nicobar.
Subhash Chandra Bose is believed to have passed away in a plane crash just after takeoff. Since there are uncertainties about how he died, the Government of India has formed various committees to look into the matter.
